THANKS TO LEGAL AID, a disabled woman receives the care she needs

noun_Superhero_550572I represented a woman from Poland who suffered from a severe brain injury and physical disabilities after a car accident.

The local authority said she was not entitled to care because she was Polish. We argued that this would be a breach of her human rights.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, we successfully challenged this decision and she continues to receive care in the UK.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, a deafblind man is supported to spend time outside

noun_outside_30541I represented a deafblind man with physical disabilities.

When I visited his care home, he had been left in his wheelchair in a dark room without any staff members. I reviewed his records and realised he had never been taken outside. We challenged this in court.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, staff regularly support him to spend time outside and the local authority do regular unscheduled checks on the care home.

The man was non-verbal but when I went to visit him, he proudly showed me his old school certificates. This included awards for making a sandwich and a cup of tea. We asked the local authority to arrange further education for him to develop his skills.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, he is starting a new course and will soon have new certificates to show off.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, a single parent will not have her children removed from her care

noun_single parent_128733I represented a single parent who was struggling to look after her children.

The local authority sent her a letter saying they would start court proceedings to remove her children. I supported her during a meeting with social workers and helped her to explain all the steps she had taken to improve her parenting.

THANKS TO LEGAL AID, her children will live with her and the family will continue to receive support from the local authority.
